Super Reversal

A break below a well-established low that fails — read at 5-second resolution.

Super Reversal on 688733 1h: a REVERSAL label on the failed breakdown of 21 July

688733 · 1h · SSE. The REVERSAL bar of 21 July: the broken low had stood 903 bars; verdict stall · absorption · slow, four stars. One example of what the label looks like — not a track record.

Super Reversal is a volume-forensics indicator for one specific event: a break below a low that has held for a long time, that fails. It does not predict reversals. It waits until price actually trades through the level, then reads the lower-timeframe sub-bars — the individual seconds of trading — and asks four questions about what volume did in the first minutes after the break: was the first print through the level a burst, was it one-sided, did the break keep thrusting on the wall clock, and did the bar close back above the level. If the break was loud but could not be pushed further and the bar closed back inside, the bar is labeled REVERSAL, graded one to five stars, with every measured number in the tooltip. The same machinery run on breaks of highs produces GUARD labels — exit sentinels for long positions, not short entries.

What you get

  • Four REVERSAL variants — buyer takeover (FAST), takeover unconfirmed, absorption, exhaustion — plus a hard-evidence tag when ignition volume is extreme relative to ticks moved.
  • GUARD labels on failed upside breaks: bull-trap and stop-sweep trap.
  • A data-grade check on every bar: ranges where TradingView supplies minute-level or no usable sub-bar data are shaded and signals are paused there, so you never read a signal from a different resolution than the rest of the chart.
  • Alerts via a single "Any alert() function call" alert; each alert carries a one-line summary plus a JSON payload with every measured value.

Where it works

Designed and calibrated for instruments that trade on a single centralized order book, where the chart volume is the whole tape — exchange-listed stocks in Shanghai/Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Tokyo, ASX and similar, and single-underlying futures. Not designed for index futures such as NQ/MNQ/ES/MES (flow dominated by basket arbitrage) or US equities (volume fragmented across venues). It will run there, but the readings are diluted.

Requirements

TradingView Premium or Ultimate (second-based intervals). A 1-minute sub-bar mode exists for other plans but is much coarser. Default profile: 1-hour chart, 5-second sub-bars, 5-minute thrust window.
